The AmeriLife IT Department will be installing a Microsoft update to all company computers over the weekend and throughout next week.

Starting on Friday, April 3 and through next week, associates are asked to KEEP THEIR COMPUTERS ON throughout the evening to allow the updates to be installed. This includes the weekend and overnight.

Associates may get a notification popup that “software changes are required,” but do not need to take any action. The system will automatically install these updates outside of normal business hours. If your computer is not powered on when the updates are installed, they will install the next morning.

This request applies to associates working on-site and for those working remotely. If you forget to leave your computer running during the update, it could take between 30 – 40 minutes for your computer to complete the update when you restart it.

Although computers are asked to remain on, hourly associates are reminded to please remember to clock-out at the end of the work day and clock-in at the beginning of the next work day.

As a reminder, associates working remotely are required to restart their VPN each morning, noting that it automatically disconnects each night for security reasons.

Social Distancing Your Weekend Plans
Social distancing has become the new norm in our lives. This important measure is a vital step in curbing the infection rate during the coronavirus pandemic.

Everyone looks forward to the weekend and the different activities that we have planned. However, social distancing is making us rethink how we pursue our Saturday and Sunday pastimes.

Here are some tips from CNN News on enjoying your weekends while continuing to practice social distancing measures.

For the Cultural Connoisseur

  • Read everything
  • Take a virtual museum tour
  • Pursue amateur film criticism on social media
  • Learn a language – or just the basics
  • Bolster your vocabulary

For the Nature Buff

  • Be in nature – at six-feet away from others
  • Start birdwatching
  • Go on a secluded run

For the Foodie

  • Get takeout
  • Make that recipe you always wanted to make
  • Find new recipes

For the Self-Care Folks

  • Video chat – a lot
  • Meditate
  • Nap

For Busybodies

  • Bring out the board games
  • Tackle a ginormous puzzle
  • Make art
  • Do the tough stuff you’ve been putting off
    (taxes anyone?)
  • Get handy around the house

  • Become an expert
  • Show your team some love
  • Revisit an old game

Finding new ways to enjoy your favorite activities while still keeping separated from others will be a key in managing our emotions and remaining positive during this challenging time.
