The giving spirit of AmeriLife Cares was out in full force during the Christmas in July fundraiser to support St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.

“St. Joe’s is a legend in the Tampa Bay area,” said Scott Perry, AmeriLife chairman and CEO. “Our leadership selected this event to support due to the important care the hospital provides to children and their families across the region.”

Associates working in the Clearwater area were asked to bring in toy donations throughout July. These toys will be given to children receiving care at St. Joe’s.

In addition, associates throughout the country could make financial contributions that would count toward AmeriLife’s total donations. The executive leadership jump started the financial contributions with a $5,000 donation.

The fundraiser took a tropical turn with a Hawaiian Holidays kickoff. Associates donned their favorite Hawaiian shirts to get in the spirit and shared their outfits on social media.

AmeriLife associates at the corporate office in Clearwater had a little competition to see which building could bring in the most toy donations. Chief Legal Officer Nathan Hightower directed the North Pole team (aka the Heritage Building), while Chief Distribution Officer Mike Vietri directed the South Pole team (aka AmeriLife Place).

And there was a real prize for the winner of the Battle of the Buildings; at the corporate office kickoff, Nathan and Mike told associates that the team that collected the most toys would win a visit from a Kona Ice Truck.

Throughout the month, toys arrived at both buildings, and by July 28, it was hard to tell which building would come out victorious. But after the count, it turned out the South Pole team smoked the North Pole team by nearly 500 toys. All in all, corporate office associates donated 842 toys to the Christmas in July fundraiser.

In addition to the toy donations, associates from across the country made financial contributions to the Christmas in July fundraiser. Associates donated $4,489 on the AmeriLife page, which exceeded our goal by nearly $2,000!

The fun continued on July 29 when eight AmeriLife associates traveled to St. Joe’s to deliver the company’s toy donations and help with collecting donations from the public. Decked out in their AmeriLife Cares t-shirts, the group facilitated moving toys from cars to rolling collection bins and into a central collection point inside the hospital.

The real winners for the Christmas in July fundraiser are the patients at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. AmeriLife’s donations are a part of our community’s commitment to supporting the children and their families undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our AmeriLife associates across the country,” said Perry. “They stepped up to support this worthwhile organization and truly showed that AmeriLife cares for its community.”
