The coronavirus pandemic unfortunately coincided with allergy season. We’re also still in the final phase of the annual flu season. And all three have similar symptoms.

According to health care professionals, the symptoms of coronavirus include a fever, dry cough and shortness of breath. Those symptoms mimic other illnesses, so how can you tell if you have coronavirus or something else?

In the March 20 issue of USA TODAY, Dr. Maria Granzotti, chief medical officer at Ascension Texas, outlined the differences.

Is it a Cold, the Flu or Coronavirus symptom table

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends monitoring your symptoms. If you have trouble breathing, seek medical attention, but call your doctor or emergency room first to report your symptoms.

If you develop emergency warning signs* for coronavirus, get medical attention immediately.

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face

*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning
